If ever there was a testament to this man's genius. All of these great songs here, for whatever reason, were written for other artists. Most successful musicians couldn't come up with tunes this good for themselves, let alone classify them as "throwaways" so to speak. Prince shows his diversity by having a wide variety of artists successfully cover his material. These songs here were covered by everyone from Sheila E. to The Bangles. From Kenny Rogers to The Time. And let's not forget Nothing Compares 2 U which made Sinead O'Connor a star.

Unlike the previous posthumous release Piano and a Microphne, this album's songs have all been crafted into a final form, and the finished product sounds ready for consumption. Occasionally we come across a track such as "Holly Rock" that does sound like it's missing something that makes really good songs great, and one feels that if Prince did "keep" these songs for himself, he would have spent a bit more time in the studio polishing some of the edges and making these tunes shine a tad brighter.

Prince may have never wished that such a collection be released, and one can see his thinking. Yet having these treasures available is quite the bonus for the faithful fan.
