The years that are represented on this collection are...well...let's
be honest...from the time period where Prince wasn't exactly on top of the world anymore. This was
definitely the weird phase of his career - both in terms of personality and output. This time
is when he did things like change his name to a symbol and only offer his music via a website. As
far as his music goes, he was writing loose concept stories as well as releasing an album with nothing
but classical strings.
Only the serious follower knows everything here, yet for the most part, this release succeeds. Not only in
showing off his strongest material, but trying to represent everything the artist did during this time -
even if everything he did wasn't necessarily well received nor of his standard high quality.
In case anyone is super curious, Prince did have a few releases after the time period before his
untimely, unfortunate death. So if one is looking for a collection representing everything, this one falls
a bit short in that aspect.
