Before this release, the sole Journey live album was 1981's Captured, which although incredibly powerful, was released right before the band exploded commercially. This live album features two more album's worth of material, which, let's face it, were chocked filled with hits - hence the title. More than half the material here is from those two albums, so the good news is that this really isn't a rehash of what they've already done.

The bulk of this release is taken from a 1981 concert in Houston that, unbeknown at the time, would be released in its entireity on cd a few short years later. At times things can get a bit choppy. Steve Perry ad-libs "Houston" way too much thoughout his singing, and there's a weird Japanese shout-out near the end of Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) (so this song was not, obviously, recorded in Houston), but overall the album delivers what it sets out to do. It would have been nice to have thrown in a few songs from the Raised on Radio era. Not sure why it was skipped, other than the fact that there were a few different members in the band.
