Not sure how all of these "bootlegs" that Dylan keeps releasing work, but apparently some of these have a "sampler" version as opposed to a "complete" version. As much as I love Dylan, I prefer the one or two disc samplers. Sorry, but I don't want to wade through seven discs and listen to seven different unreleased versions of Idiot Wind, no matter how eclectic each version might be.

So my review that I'm including here is for the one disc "sampler". Fortunately for me, this is, without a doubt, the best of the bootleg series. I say that because this is from the Blood on the Tracks sessions, and Blood on the Tracks is my favorite Bob Dylan album of all time.

Eight of the ten songs from the album are here. This release also has two songs that have been released on other compilation releases, so there's nothing "brand new" here. All songs sound stellar, and the main highlight for me is that many of these songs are done acoustically with guitar and harmonica - as if he was recording them for his first 3 or 4 albums. Songs like Tangled Up in Blue and Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts could have easily been included on one of those early albums, and they would have been stellar additions.

Whether the "complete" version that has seven discs or so has any other redeemable features, I don't know, but if you're a big fan of Blood on the Tracks, then this one is a must.
